Since Julien has been taking piano lessons and getting more and more in to all types of keyboard sounds and vocal styles, Michael thought it would be cool to play some Laurie Anderson for him. He thought "O Superman" would be a good start, because of the things she does with her voice and the keyboard to sound like a metronome, an answering machine, and so forth.
I wasn't there, but apparently Julien was completely creeped out by the song, by her photo on the album cover, and what the hell is this song about anyway? We spent the rest of the evening trying to convince him that Laurie Anderson was not out to get him. It didn't work. At first it was kind of funny. Aaaiieee!!! Save me from the performance artist! Her ambiguity and ghostly pallor have left me paralyzed with dread!
The humor wore off as the night wore on. He and I lost a lot of sleep, as he kept getting out of bed or calling for someone to come help him stop worrying about it. He finally drifted off after I told him that, yeah, there's a lot of room for interpretation in the music and images, but he was choosing to fill that space in with negative stuff. Or maybe it's just a song.
The next morning, on the way into school, Julien asked Michael if Laurie Anderson was still alive. So, my friend Jimmy has a show over at the Creative Research Lab through February 10th. I missed the opening, as it was my first weekend of yoga school, and I was just beat. I can't wait to go, if only to see how this piece is coming along. commenting is down, as we were struck by comment spammers. Michael is trying to decide if he wants to even deal with the problem (my blog and his run on his nifty little home-cooked content management system, chatterbox), or if we should just move on to another cms.
it's not like I have an actual readership or anything. I'll miss hearing from you, though. drop me a line, whenever.you know, when you're in the thick of a home improvement project and start to lose steam and it just gets overwhelming and you're ready to call someone to just come take it over but that would be stupid because there's not really THAT much left to do but good-effing-christ why can't it just be over already?
yeah. I am at that point.
Who knew reworking one of the smallest rooms in the house could be such a soul-sucking nightmare? We are redoing the utility room in anticipation of a new arrival. More later.Already I am slacking on my NaBloPoMo pledge. gah. In my defense, I have spent time every day tinkering with the site in some way, trying to get it ready for public consumption. Not that I expect the public to consume one bit of this site, but, well, you know what I mean. Still lots of tweaking to do.
There's plenty to say, but I'll start here: I bought a copy of Fiddler on the Roof on friday, and the whole house has been idle-didle-didle-didle-ing ever since.
I took Julien to see Ben Folds at Stubb's tonight. Corn Mo opened. It was awesome, of course. Corn Mo did a stunning...
